Library Card
Who can have a library card?
- Anyone over 14 years of age, with an Iowa residence, can be issued a library borrower's card.
- Children 14 years and younger can also be issued a library card, with a parent's approval.
How much does a library card cost?
- Library cards are free for all Iowa residents, and there is no charge for checking out materials.
- Borrowed items that are lost or severely damaged may incur a replacement charge issued to the patron under whose account the item(s) were checked out.
Do I need a library card to use the library?
- No, anyone is free to visit the library during open hours and can access our collections and services on site.
So what does a library card get me?
- While anyone can access our collections on site, library card holders can check out many of our materials and bring them home for a period of time.
- Books and audiobooks can be checked out for two-week periods.
- DVDs can be checked out for two days.
- If you need more time with your checked-out items, simply give the library a call, and your items can be renewed for an additional check-out period if no one else is in line.
- Library card holders have access to our digital media partnernships with Libby and Hoopla to check out additional titles.
- If there's something that you can't find either at the Avoca Public Library or through one of our digital media providers, with your library card, we can also request to borrow it from any Iowa public library.
